What is aesthetic dentistry?

Aesthetic dentistry focuses on improving the appearance of your smile. This is accomplished through a variety of treatments that improve the color, alignment, shape, and spacing of your teeth. Many patients elect to receive these procedures because they believe that aesthetically beautiful teeth are healthier than teeth with structural issues. However, cosmetic treatments also improve both the function and health of your teeth and gums. Veneers can correct chipped or crooked teeth, while teeth whitening can restore your brilliant smile. Other restorative treatments and preventive dental care can keep your gums healthy and restore them to their natural pink color while also preventing tooth decay and other oral health concerns.

Cosmetic dentistry

Aesthetic dentistry is any dental care that improves the appearance of your smile. It can include treatments like teeth whitening, porcelain veneers, dental crowns, and more. These treatments are designed to improve the appearance of your teeth so you can have a smile you’re proud of. Part of cosmetic dentistry involves making your smile look healthy and natural; your cosmetic dentist can help you decide which treatments are right for you based on your needs. For example, if you’re missing a tooth and want to have a replacement that looks natural and blends in with the rest of your smile, then dental implants might be the best option for you. However, if you are only concerned with the color of your teeth, then a professional whitening treatment would be a better option. At my dental office, we can help you figure out what cosmetic treatment is right for you based on your goals and concerns. Give us a call today!

Dental bonding

Dental bonding is a cosmetic procedure in which a tooth-colored resin material is applied to your teeth and hardened with a special light, so that it takes on the appearance of natural teeth. Bonding is often recommended to fix chipped teeth or fill small gaps between teeth. It can also be used as an alternative to amalgam fillings to repair cavities. Unlike veneers, which are custom-made shells bonded to the front of your teeth, bonding typically doesn’t require any preparation to your existing tooth structure. The process typically requires between one and two hours in the dentist’s chair. First, the dentist roughens the surface of the affected tooth to improve the bond between the tooth and the bonding agent. Then, the composite resin is applied in thin layers to your tooth, shaped and then hardened with a curing light. Finally, your dentist will check your bite to make sure your teeth are coming together properly. Once you’re happy with the result, you’re done!

At-home care following bonding is very similar to regular at-home dental care. You may need to purchase a toothbrush with soft brush head if the enamel on your tooth was roughened prior to your procedure. You should avoid drinking beverages like coffee, tea or red wine that can stain your teeth. You should also abstain from smoking or using tobacco products, which can discolor your teeth. Brushing and flossing regularly is the best way to prevent stains from developing. By avoiding foods and substances that stain, brushing twice a day and using mouthwash whenever you eat or drink, you can keep your new smile looking bright for years to come! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ocean Breeze Dental Care specializes in cosmetic dentistry including Invisalign clear aligners and emergency dental

Dental implants

A dental implant restores the appearance and function of a tooth that is missing due to decay, infection, or injury. The implant itself replaces the tooth’s root and is covered with a replacement crown that looks like a natural tooth. As long as you practice good oral hygiene habits, your dental implants can last a lifetime. Porcelain veneers

Porcelain veneers are thin shells of ceramic that cover your natural teeth to improve their appearance. Veneers are a great choice for correcting multiple issues at once, like chips, cracks, or discolorations. Each veneer is custom-made to fit your teeth perfectly and match your smile. They are incredibly durable and can last for years with proper care. Veneers are also stain-resistant so you won’t have to worry about smiling while you have them on! Talk to your dentist today to see if porcelain veneers are right for you.

What are dental implants?

Dental implants are a permanent solution to missing teeth. A dental implant consists of a metal post inserted into the jawbone and a restoration attached to the post to replace a missing tooth. The implant post bonds to your jawbone to provide a sturdy base for the restoration. Implants replace both the root and crown of the tooth, providing better overall support for your oral health. Unlike a bridge, an implant does not require the surrounding teeth to be altered or damaged in order to slip in place. Additionally, implants do not need to be removed for cleaning and are extremely durable lasting decades or even a lifetime if cared for properly. Read More...

What is cosmetic bonding?

Cosmetic bonding is used to correct minor imperfections in a tooth’s appearance. The process takes just one appointment and involves the use of composite resin material which is matched to the shade of your existing enamel. For minimal adjustments, your dentist will apply the resin directly to the tooth and shape it into the desired look. For more involved changes, an impression will be taken and sent to our lab where your custom restorations will be crafted. Once the bonding material has been applied and set, it will be polished to match the glossiness of your other natural teeth. Read More...
