What is PHOTOBIOMODULATION THERAPY?

PHOTOBIOMODULATION THERAPY is a noninvasive therapeutic light treatment that uses a low-level laser or light emitting diodes (LEDs). This therapy helps repair damaged cells at the cellular level. This in turn increases circulation and oxygenation of the blood, which promotes healing of the soft tissue.

How Does PHOTOBIOMODULATION THERAPY Work?

In the 21st century, gum disease treatment is more advanced than ever before. Gone are the days of painful surgeries and uncertain healing times. Patients can now benefit from a simple, minimally invasive laser therapy.

The laser therapy is called PHOTOBIOMODULATION THERAPY (PBM).

What is PBM?

PBM is a nonsurgical procedure that targets the bacteria that cause gum disease. The laser therapy works by generating a photochemical reaction. The therapy is painless, and is an alternative to invasive gum surgery.

During treatment, the laser activates an amino acid in the bacteria. The amino acids are activated so the bacteria can “die”. The dead bacteria are then flushed from the mouth and replaced by healthy bacteria.

What are the Benefits of PBM?

Patients of PBM often experience several benefits.

- No Surgery

Laser therapy is often a quick procedure that takes only minutes. Patients can avoid the downtime associated with traditional surgery and can return to work or other activities immediately.

- No Needles

There is no needle needed to administer PBM. Patients are often comfortable and relaxed during treatment.

- No Anesthesia

Traditional gum surgery requires the use of a local anesthetic. Patients can avoid this by opting for laser therapy.

- No Side Effects

Laser therapy carries little to no side effects. Patients can resume normal activities immediately after treatment.

What Issues can PHOTOBIOMODULATION THERAPY Fix?

PHOTOBIOMODULATION THERAPY is an advanced dental technology to combat gum disease. It combines laser therapy with the oral rinse Periowave® to sanitize your mouth, remove plaque and tartar, and stimulate your gingival (gum) tissue.

This therapy is especially effective for those who have periodontal disease, have had periodontal surgery, or have undergone a dental implant procedure.

After your deep cleaning, your periodontist will instruct you on how to use Periowave®. Then, you’ll use the rinse twice daily. The rinse will help keep your mouth clean, and your periodontist will monitor your progress.

Is PHOTOBIOMODULATION THERAPY Right For Me?

If you are afraid of the dentist or feel uneasy about dental treatment, then this therapy might be right for you.

Photobiomodulation therapy, also known as low-level light therapy, uses light from light-emitting diodes (LEDs) to decrease inflammation, decrease pain, decrease swelling, and speed up healing. This therapy is safe, effective, and non-invasive. It’s a great option for patients who feel anxious about visiting the dentist or about receiving treatment.

What to

Each light therapy session should last at least 20 minutes. You should wear protective glasses or goggles. Feel free to watch a movie or read a book to pass the time.

A photobiomodulation device doesn’t hurt and is completely safe, but you may experience some redness or irritation after an appointment. This is normal, and should disappear after a couple of hours.

Most patients find photobiomodulation therapy to be relaxing and rejuvenating. This therapy may be used to treat a variety of skin conditions, including acne, psoriasis, dermatitis, eczema, vitiligo, and more.
