What’s a same-day crown?

A same-day crown is a crown that the dentist makes in the office on the same day. Traditionally, crowns are made by a dental lab, but same-day crowns provide the same results in half the time.

First, the dentist takes digital X-rays to ensure the crown fits properly. Then, the tooth is prepared by removing any decay. A digital impression is taken of your tooth, which is sent electronically to the lab. The lab uses the digital impression to create a customized crown.

Next, we’ll need to prepare the tooth

To place your same-day crown, we will first need to trim down the enamel of your tooth. This will make it possible for the crown to fit over your tooth without crowding. Next, we’ll take an impression of your tooth. This will help our team create your custom crown. We’ll place a temporary crown on your tooth to protect it while your permanent crown is being made.

The crown is then created

Dr. [doctor’s name] uses a milling device to take impressions of your teeth. He then sends the information to a trusted dental lab, which will create your same-day crown.

Next, we’ll need to remove the temporary crown

Before the crown is ready, we’ll need to take off the temporary one. To do this, we’ll simply remove the temporary cement and slip off the crown. We’ll then clean the tooth again to remove debris and plaque. We’ll then dry the tooth, place the new crown, and cement it into place.

Last, we put the new crown in its place!

The crown is affixed to the tooth using dental cement. Voila! In just one visit to the dentist, you get a natural-looking restoration that restores form and function to your teeth.

Voila! A brand new crown that’s ready in the same day!

Same-day crowns are made through a process called chairside CAD/CAM (computer-aided design and computer-assisted manufacturing). First, we prepare the tooth for the crown; this includes removing any decay and shaping the tooth. Then, we capture a digital image of your smile. This image is loaded into a computer, and we use specialized software to custom design your new crown.

The software allows us to determine the exact size, shape, color, and fit of your crown. The software also allows us to design your new crown so it fits comfortably and securely. Once we’re happy with the design, we send it to our in-office milling machine. The milling unit uses diamond burs to mill your new crown from a high-quality ceramic block. This ceramic block matches the shade of your tooth and is extremely strong, so your new crown will be durable, functional, and aesthetically beautiful.
