Teeth whitening is one of the easiest ways to enhance your smile just in time for the holidays! Many patients assume their teeth are white enough, but professional teeth whitening can brighten your smile by several shades!
But before you schedule your procedure, it's important to understand the difference between in-office and at-home teeth whitening.
When you come into our office for a teeth whitening session, we'll apply a specially formulated hydrogen peroxide gel to the surface of your teeth. The active ingredient in the gel is the bleach that lightens the shade of your teeth. We'll expose your teeth to the gel for around an hour at a time. Most patients see results after just one visit, but if your teeth are severely stained, you may need additional treatments to see a difference. If you opt for an in-office treatment, you'll also go home with a set of custom-fitted trays that you use to touch up your smile at home.
You can also do your own teeth whitening from home using over-the-counter products. These kits come with special bleaching gels that you apply directly to your teeth and wear for a specific amount of time each day or overnight. You'll typically wear the tray filled with the gel for anywhere between one and four weeks to see optimal results. Some people experience tooth sensitivity or tissue irritation if they overuse the products. If you have sensitive teeth or special oral health needs, it's best to choose a professional treatment rather than trying a DIY kit.
Seeing your smile transformed can make you feel amazing and more confident than ever. You're more likely to smile more and, in turn, appear more attractive to others. Many people also notice increased self-esteem with whiter teeth; making yourself look more appealing puts you at an advantage in social situations or during the interview process. Although whitening doesn't last as long as other forms of cosmetic dentistry, it can be more affordable and noticeable right away. If you want to brighten your teeth in time for Christmas, make sure you schedule your appointment as soon as possible.
